Countdown to 2020 … Dennise knew she had to make a change.
At 19, Dennise was a single expectant mother living in an unsafe environment. She knew she needed to make a change for both her and her child when she sought help and was referred to HOPE 4 Youth. For two years, she frequented the Drop-In Center to meet her basic needs including a hot evening meal, personal care items, clothing, food, access to additional resources, and prenatal care. During this time Dennise returned to school, worked hard, and earned her high school diploma.
After graduation, Dennise and her two-year-old son, Isaiah, were accepted into the Jeremiah Program, a local nonprofit that works to end the cycle of poverty: two generations at a time. Currently, Dennise is attending the Minneapolis Community and Technical College. She and Isaiah are living in a safe, and stable environment while preparing for their future.
